One of the most picturesque of the villages in the National Park lies in a natural hollow or hole, hence its name. A clear moorland stream, Hutton Beck, splashes and winds its way through the pillowy mounds that form the village green, traditionally cropped by the local sheep. The open-air Ryedale Folk Museum is right in the centre of the village. Ryedale Folk Museum houses over 20 reconstructed buildings, including an Iron Age roundhouse, Tudor mansion, vintage photographer's studio, craft workshops and farm buildings. There's always something to see at Hutton le Hole Craft Workshops, whose artisans are hard at work making chocolate, candles, rugs, moorland crafts, glassware and ceramics. Hutton le Hole has a pub and several cafés - or enjoy an ice cream on the green! Later in the day we will visit Thornton Le Dale. The thatched cottage by the babbling beck in Thornton le Dale is one of the best-loved sights in the whole of the National Park. It's a highly picturesque village, centred on a tiny triangular green with its old market cross and stocks. A woodland footpath runs from the car park to the village and there are lots more local walks that show you the best of the surrounding valleys and woods. There are several cafés and pubs in Thornton le Dale. Thornton Le Dale is also the home of Mathewson's (Bangers & Cash) where you will be able to visit the filming location and the gift shop.
